On April 29, 2019, Keith and Sandra Merwin boarded the Norwegian Cruise Line's Joy in Los Angeles for its U.S. Inaugural cruise. This was a special one night cruise was held to introduce Travel Agents to this newly overhauled ship. Norwegian Joy was launched in 2017 and was Norwegian's first ship purposely built for the Chinese market. After her sister ship, Norwegian Bliss, had the most successful launch season in company history, Norwegian decided to return the Joy to the U.S. market. So the Joy was reconfigured by cutting casino space, removing tea houses and adding dining venues. Now the Joy is almost identical to the Norwegian Bliss.
The Norwegian Joy now includes an onboard go-kart track, open-air laser tag arena and the Galaxy Pavilion, a dedicated virtual reality and gaming venue, along with a variety of new dining and bar venues.
